Hunting for Speech Therapy Words in Word Search Articulation

Hunting for Speech Therapy Words in Word Search Articulation

I have two words for you: Word. Searches.

I have two more words for you: Are. Fun.

Now, I have four words for you: Word. Searches. Are. Fun.

Yes, word searches ARE fun!

Didn’t you love doing word searches when you were a child? I know I did and that’s exactly why I created my latest app called Word Search Articulation. This fun and exciting speech therapy game allows you to practice your searching skills WHILE working on your articulation abilities. Word Search Articulation is jam-packed with over 1,000 sound-specific articulation words that can be hunted for. These puzzles contain hidden words to use with individuals who exhibit difficulty producing the following speech sounds: S, Z, R, L, S/R/L Blends, SH, CH, and TH.

Exercise your eyes!

Have your students take Word Search Articulation for a spin. Then, watch as they happily give their eyeballs a serious workout as they try their hardest to find their hidden articulation words.

A round of hide and seek, anyone?

Word Search Articulation is so easy to play. At the start of each round, the given word hides in a grid filled to the brim with jumbled letters. In an attempt to discover the hidden word, children must concentrate and focus their eyes on the grid to spot that sneaky word. These puzzles demand great detective work because each and every single word is fantastic at hiding.

But don’t worry, there’s always a hint!

If a student gets stumped and is unable to find the hidden word, the ‘hint’ button is always an option. This could be pressed at any point during the word search and it causes the first letter of the hidden word to become highlighted. This child-friendly feature ensures that all students will experience success as they participate in this wonderful word hunt adventure.

Give it a try!

I guarantee that you will fall in love with Word Search Articulation. And if you hate it, don’t worry because I’ll come over your house and wash your dirty dishes for you. That’s how I will apologize to you. (Please note that I can only come over if you live within a 15 mile radius from me, hehe!). So, I invite you to use this game to spice up your speech therapy session. Click HERE to download the app from the Apple App Store. Enjoy!

Charades Articulation Allows Students to Have Fun While Guessing Target Words

Charades Articulation Allows Students to Have Fun While Guessing Target Words

I’m going to let you in on a little secret of mine! I adore the game of charades. It’s a timeless game that has the ability to turn any uneventful get-together into an action-packed party! So, that’s exactly why the game of charades has found its way into my speech therapy room on more than one occasion (err, hundreds of occasions, to be a bit more truthful!). It can turn any uneventful speech therapy session into an action-packed speech therapy party!

Do you ever play charades in speech therapy?

Charades is an easy-to-play and fast-paced game that allows all players to have fun while describing, acting out, and guessing random words. However, in the past, charades has had nothing to do with speech therapy. But that’s all about to change with this brand spankin’ new app that I created called Charades Articulation. Now, thanks to this app, charades and speech therapy have effectively been combined (and I’m happy to announce that they both live together in perfect harmony!). This app elaborates on the classic charades party game by including a comprehensive collection of over 1,000 sound-specific articulation words that can be chosen from to appear during a round of play. These word lists were designed for speech-language pathologists to use with individuals who exhibit difficulty producing the following speech sounds: S, Z, R, L, S/R/L Blends, SH, CH, and TH.

Let’s chat about how to play!

Players of Charades Articulation have the opportunity to describe or act out a set of sound-specific articulation words to a designated person who is called the guesser. Everyone will be able to see the given sound-specific articulation word except for the guesser. The goal of each round of play is to provide the guesser with as many clues as possible, either verbally or physically (or both!), so a large amount of sound-specific articulation words can be successfully guessed. The more words guessed, the higher the final score!

Fun for the whole family!

I tried extremely hard to create an app that could not only live within the speech therapy room, but could also live within the home-setting. With Charades Articulation, children could easily challenge their friends and family members at home, in a way that doesn’t look or feel like completing a typical “speech homework” assignment. This smart disguise helps children to further practice their articulation skills and thereby facilitates the sometimes difficult stage of carrying over newly-acquired skills. I sincerely believe that by playing Charades Articulation with a child at home, all parties involved can reinforce that kiddo’s skills while sharing a fun activity that everyone can participate in. Practicing communication skills in environments outside the speech therapy setting increases opportunities for generalization of them.

So, what are you waiting for?

Give Charades Articulation a shot today. Regardless of when, where, or how this app is used, one thing is certain, children (as well as adults) will have a delightful time giving it a try . . . and in the process, your children will continue to practice the correct pronunciation of their sounds at the word level. It just doesn’t get any better than that. Click HERE to download the app from the Apple App Store. Enjoy (and please let me know what you think)!

Saving the World in Speech Therapy with Secret Mission Articulation

Saving the World in Speech Therapy with Secret Mission Articulation

One of my favorite games to play in speech therapy with my older articulation kiddos is hangman. Now, I don’t know the origins of that game (a man hanging?! weird!), but I can tell you that despite its creepiness (again, a man hanging?!), it’s still is a great activity that consistently increases my students’ vocabulary, spelling, word recognition, and overall understanding of their target sound(s).

But don’t you wish there was a non-creepy version of hangman?

I know I sure did. So I looked high and low, but I wasn’t able to find one that fit my needs as a speech-language pathologist. So then it hit me, why don’t I just make one myself? Necessity is the mother of invention, right?

A new app is born and it rocks!

Ladies and gentlemen, I’m pleased to present to you my latest app called Secret Mission Articulation. This unique (and non-creepy) hangman-ish game is very cool and my students love it to bits. It challenges players to guess a hidden word by choosing from different letters on an alphabet board. The app features a comprehensive collection of over 600 sound-specific articulation words designed for SLPs to use with individuals who exhibit difficulty producing the following speech sounds: S, Z, R, L, S/R/L Blends, SH, CH, and TH. In addition, it contains over 100 hilarious secret missions for players to pretend to partake in secret missions?! Yup! Secret missions, indeed!

The evil robot must be stopped!

Secret Mission Articulation is set up in a way that turns each player into a secret government agent who is courageously trying to foil the sinister plans of an evil robot. This super villain will stop at nothing to wreak havoc. Thankfully, each player in your speech therapy room possesses the power to stop the evil robot by successfully guessing his secret password (which would be your student’s articulation word, NICE!). Once the password is uncovered and entered into the system, the evil robot instantly shuts down. Therefore, he is unable to complete the naughty plans that he was preparing for. Hooray!

So, are you ready to save the world from the evil robot?

The planet is counting on you! I invite you to use Secret Mission Articulation to spice up your speech therapy sessions. Click HERE to download it from the Apple App Store. Enjoy (and please let me know what you think)!

Listen Close Articulation Is a Speech Therapy Game Your Students Will Love to Play

Listen Close Articulation Is a Speech Therapy Game Your Students Will Love to Play

Is it snowing outside? If so, I’m one of the first people to dash out of the house to play a wacky game in the cold where I toss snowballs everywhere. Is there a huge pile of leaves in your backyard? You better believe I’ll jump straight into those leaves and create a game where I throw leaves all over the place. Good times! Good times, indeed.

So, why do I adore such silly little games?

It’s because I like to have fun. Period.

If you’re a speech-language pathologist that works with school-aged children, you better like to have fun because fun is a must. That’s exactly why I create all of my speech therapy activities by tapping into my inner child. I often think back to my younger years and say to myself, “Erik, think of some of the most fun times you ever experienced as a kiddo. Now, try to sprinkle some aspects of those fun times on top of your next speech therapy activity.” Visions of me playing fun games as a child always come to mind and that is essentially how my latest app, Listen Close Articulation, came to be.

Oh yeah, I just made a new app and I want to tell you all about it.

Remember that classic electronic memory game from the 1980s called Simon? (Google it if you don’t remember it.) Simon was one of my most favorite games to play while growing up. In fact, I have the best memories of my grandmother and I eating pizza together and challenging each other to Simon competitions where we would attempt to repeat those flashing lights and sounds. Trying to memorize the hypnotic lights and sound sequences was such a blast. So, I wanted to create an app for my speech therapy students that had similar fun components to Simon, but was grounded in a solid speech therapy foundation. Well, guess what? I succeeded!

Say hello to Listen Close Articulation.

Listen Close Articulation is a unique speech therapy game (app) that challenges players to memorize and repeat an ever-increasing string of articulation word sequences. It features a comprehensive collection of over 600 sound-specific articulation words designed for SLPs to use with individuals who exhibit difficulty producing the following speech sounds: S, Z, R, L, S/R/L Blends, SH, CH, and TH. The game is intended to aid in the remediation of articulation impairments, as well as auditory memory difficulties because clients often need practice in more than one area of communication.

The best of both worlds.

Just like the old-school Simon game, Listen Close Articulation is both challenging and exciting. Traditional speech therapy that focuses on improving articulation abilities can usually get stale and boring, but through this game, speech therapy can easily become an enjoyable competition that strengthens students’ listening ears, talking mouths, and thinking brains. A round of Listen Close Articulation consists of buttons (faces) saying articulation words in a random order, after which the student must reproduce that order by pressing the faces in the correct sequence. As the game progresses, the number of faces to be pressed increases.

Listen Close Articulation is fun. Period.

Trust me; you’re going to love this one. Click HERE to check it out on the Apple App Store. Enjoy!
