Start a Dance Party in Speech Therapy with Dance Party Articulation

I love parties. Birthday parties and holiday parties are probably two of the most common types of parties out there. But do you know what my all-time favorite type of party is? A good, old-fashioned dance party! Crank up the tunes and get your boogy oogy oogy on because their ain’t no party better party than a dance party!

Am I right?!

As a form of non-verbal communication, dancing allows people of all ages the opportunity to express thoughts, feelings, and ideas in a manner that explores and encourages rhythmic body movements. In my experience, when most children are exposed to music and are given the chance to dance, they do so with a massive smile. That’s why I feel it’s essential that we, as speech-language pathologists, make a conscious decision to infuse music and dancing into our teaching activities whenever possible. It just makes learning that much more fun for school-aged students.

I made a new app for all you dancing fans out there!

After months and months of hard work, my latest speech therapy app called Dance Party Articulation is finally available for download on the Apple App Store (please download it to your iPad and/or iPhone today!). This musical app is a comprehensive collection of over 500 wacky and hilarious dance instructions designed for speech-language pathologists to use with individuals who exhibit difficulty producing the following speech sounds: S, Z, R, L, S/R/L Blends, SH, CH, and TH. It’s intended to aid in the remediation of articulation impairments, as well as auditory and language difficulties because clients often need practice in more than one area of communication.

For example:

Let’s say your kiddo is working on improving his /S/ sound. With Dance Party Articulation, all you have to do is tap on the /S/ section within the app and you’ll gain access to dozens and dozens of silly /S/ dance moves like, “Dance like you’re a superhero. Show your super power.” After you and your student work on saying that particular /S/ sentence and talking about the sentence, you both can tap on the Play button to start a random dance song that will allow for everyone in the room to dance like a superhero! Maybe you might flex your muscles to the beat? Maybe you might pretend that you’re wearing a cape and flying all around the room while the music is jamming? There’s no such thing as a wrong dance move, so let your imagination go wild!

In closing . . .

I invite you to check out Dance Party Articulation so you can use these dance instructions to spice up your speech therapy sessions. All of the dance instructions are intended to initiate excitement and humor. And in all honesty, each dance instruction has the potential for leading almost anywhere. Even a dance instruction that appears simple can trigger a unique thought process that happily surprises all parties involved. So what are you waiting for? Download Dance Party Articulation today and shake your groove thang while you practice proper pronunciation!

Game Show Articulation Is the Speech Therapy Trivia App You Have Been Waiting For

Game Show Articulation Is the Speech Therapy Trivia App You Have Been Waiting For

How would you like to win a brand new car? Or maybe win a pet elephant? What about winning a bag of popcorn that is bigger than a house? If you said yes, you’re in luck because you can absolutely win all of these things and more by playing Game Show Articulation! (Well, you can SORT OF win these things. Keep on reading and I’ll explain.)

Game Show Articulation?! What’s that?!

Game Show Articulation is my latest speech therapy app and I ain’t lying, you’re gonna love it. It’s a unique speech therapy game that turns your students into game show contestants and challenges them to answer super fun trivia questions for a chance to win cool prizes. The prizes are imaginary though, but that’s probably for the better because having a pet elephant sounds like it would be quite dangerous. Am I right?

Tell me more about Game Show Articulation!

Don’t mind if I do! Game Show Articulation features a comprehensive collection of over 600 sound-specific articulation words and questions designed for us speech-language pathologists to use with our students who exhibit difficulty producing the following speech sounds: S, Z, R, L, S/R/L Blends, SH, CH, and TH. This thrilling trivia game is intended to aid in the remediation of articulation impairments, as well as language and auditory memory difficulties because clients often need practice in more than one area of communication.

Can you share an example trivia question with me?

Sure I can. If your student was working on his initial /S/ sound, he might get a random question that reads “A green vegetable that is grown for its long light stems and leafstalks.”Your student has to choose between these words – SEPTEMBER, SUBMARINE, and CELERY. After being presented with minimal prompts and cues, he would probably be able to verbalize how September is a month and how a submarine is a type of underwater vehicle. So that would leave him with celery. If he goes with celery as his answer, ding ding ding, he got it right! Then, he would be presented with a wrapped box with a bow on top. Go ahead and tap on that wrapped box because it will happily announce to you, in a wonderful game show host voice, what has been won!

Kid tested, kid approved!

I have a pair of private clients right now and they both request this app over and over and over again. Because of Game Show Articulation, we are able to turn the kitchen table into a game show stage and they love to pretend like there are television cameras pointed at them as they answer these trivia questions. I always tell ’em, “ya gotta make sure you have some solid articulation skills if you’re gonna to be on a television game show!”They get a real kick out of that.

In closing . . .

Game Show Articulation is quickly becoming my most favorite app and my articulation kiddos are all about it, too. It’s simple and intuitive. All in all, I believe it to be a wonderful experience from start to finish, so it would mean the world to me if you gave it a try. Would ya? Pretty please? All ya gotta do is go HERE to download it from the Apple App Store. Thanks!

Missing Letter Articulation Is Perfect for Older Articulation Students

Missing Letter Articulation Is Perfect for Older Articulation Students

Let’s play a quick game together. This is a word game of sorts. What I’ll do is show you a few words and each one will be missing a letter. Try your hardest to guess which letter is missing so you can correctly spell out the word. Cool? Cool!

Time to get this word game party started!

  • 1. RABB_T
  • 2. R_BOT
  • 3. RECY_LE

How did you do?

Did you guess rabbit, robot, and recycle? If you did, you’re correct. Give yourself a solid pat on your back because you’re awesome!

And speaking of awesome, I just came out with a new app and it’s pretty awesome!

My latest app is called Missing Letter Articulation and it’s a speech therapy game. It’s jam-packed with over 1,000 sound-specific articulation word puzzles (words that are missing one letter). Your goal with these word puzzles is to figure out which letter is missing before the timer runs out. Remember RABB_T? And R_BOT? And RECY_LE? Yup! That’s what I’m talkin’ about. These word puzzles were designed for us speech-language pathologists to use with our kiddos who exhibit difficulty producing the following speech sounds: S, Z, R, L, S/R/L Blends, SH, CH, and TH.

It’s a simple game that’s perfect for older kiddos.

I created Missing Letter Articulation because I have a few older artic students on my caseload. Some 5th graders, 6th graders, and even a few 7th graders. Students in these grade levels need something a bit more “grown up” and age-appropriate. So in my humble opinion, this speech therapy app does the trick. If you’re looking for an app to use with your older kiddos, Missing Letter Articulation is where it’s at. Get the app HERE and let me know what ya think. Enjoy!

Using Silly Sentences to Help Students Grow as Effective Communicators

Using Silly Sentences to Help Students Grow as Effective Communicators

Hey! Guess what? I made a new app called Silly Sentence Articulation and it’s a hilariously good time. It took me about a zillion years to make and I’m beyond excited that it’s NOW finally live on the Apple App Store for you to check out. You’re gonna love it!

Want to know more about the new app?

Sure you do! Silly Sentence Articulation is a comprehensive collection of over 500 silly sentences (also known as absurdities) that were specifically designed for us speech-language pathologists to use with kiddos on our caseload who exhibit difficulty producing the following speech sounds: S, Z, R, L, S/R/L Blends, SH, CH, and TH. It’s intended to aid in the remediation of articulation impairments, as well as auditory and language difficulties because our clients often need practice in more than one area of communication.

Here’s why I think students should be exposed to silly sentences:

Introducing our students to silly sentences serves two purposes – both necessary in effective problem solving and decision-making. First, it helps them become more aware of the need to logically analyze information and apply common sense reasoning to communication. Second, it helps them to begin to recognize absurdity as being a key component of humor, which assists in building emotional balance and intellectual growth. Pretty cool, if ya ask me!

Here’s why I know all children will adore this app:

There’s just so much audio for their ears to listen to! I spent a crazy amount of hours recording and re-recording the silly sentences AND the audio narrative that details WHY each and every sentence is silly. I poured my heart and soul into this particular app and I know that my wackiness will absolutely resonate with your students. And hopefully, it resonates with you, too!

So how about you give my latest app a try?

The silly sentence format within Silly Sentence Articulation is a departure from traditional articulation drill work and is effective for students ages 6 and up. Because of this unique format, clients enjoy saying the silly sentences to their friends and classmates outside of the speech therapy room, further practicing their communication skills and thereby facilitating the sometimes difficult stage of carrying over newly-acquired skills. By reviewing the silly sentences with the client, paraprofessionals in the classroom and/or parents at home can reinforce the client’s skills while sharing a fun activity. And we all know that practicing communication skills in environments outside the speech therapy setting is how we can help generalization to occur.

In closing . . .

I invite you to download Silly Sentence Articulation RIGHT NOW because something tells me that it’s just what you’ve been waiting for. I guarantee you that my silly sentences will initiate exciting and lively conversations within your speech therapy room. And the really cool thing is that every silly sentence has the potential for leading almost anywhere. Even a silly sentence that appears simple can trigger a unique thought process and complex response. There just ain’t nothin’ cooler than that, so let your imagination run wild and have a ball with Silly Sentence Articulation! (Oh, and tell your friends about it!)
